This small collection of recordings begins with a complete step backward from the PureData-oriented approach of FA/x.

On that album, all patterns were generated with stochastic algorithms or derived using sample-and-hold techniques, and all sound was generated in pd. This time around, sound generation duties have been passed over to Alsa Modular Synth (AMS), and while pattern generation continues to be done via the previous methods, it now is supplemented by the limited use of a step sequencer.

In the opening track there is no clever programmatic pattern-generation at all; rather, "GAO" is simply a monophonic modular synth vamp: three oscillators and an 8-step sequencer, in AMS.

The monophony continues through "GAU.02" and "GAU.03", where pd returns as our event generator and we hear some contrapuntal lines fighting over a single voice — this methodology is used again on the remainder of the tracks, with two "lines" driving each voice. On "GAU.1226", "GB3", and "GAV.0145" we return to polyphonic music, albeit only two voices, articulating four lines of performance data.

All recordings were performed live with no overdubs, with the exception of "GB3", which is actually one long improvisation cut in half and laid atop itself.
